Find answers to common questions about HFS Freelancers. Whether you're a freelancer or a business, we're here to help you understand how our platform works.

Getting Started

How do I sign up as a freelancer?

You can sign up directly through our app or website by creating an account. Once your profile is complete and verified, you can start applying for shifts.

What documents or info do I need to create an account?

For the verification you'll need a valid ID, your VAT number (if applicable), and bank account details for payments. Having a KvK-number is optional, but not mandatory.

Do I need to be registered with the KvK (Chamber of Commerce)?

Having a KvK-number is not mandatory, it is enough to start working with only a VAT-ID. However, we do recommend to register yourself with the KvK when working as a freelancer.

Do I need a VAT number?

Yes, a VAT number is required unless you are exempt under Dutch tax laws (e.g., small business regulation/KOR).

Which taxes do I need to pay as a freelancer?

You're responsible for income tax and VAT (BTW), if applicable.

Can I freelance if I’m a student or have a part-time job?

You can do freelance work while studying or working part-time. It's actually a very good combination to make sure you decide yourself when you would like to work.

My Account

How can I improve my chances of being chosen for shifts?

I can't work a shift that I've been accepted for, what now?

Would you like to cancel your registration before the cancellation deadline? You can do so without any consequences. View your shift in the dashboard and select: Cancel accepted shift. If you want to cancel your shift after the cancellation deadline, you must look for replacement throughout the platform, because you have not met the shift's agreements at this point.

How do I look for replacement?

If you cancel your shift after the cancellation deadline, you will not see the option “Cancel shift” anymore, but it will say “Look for replacement”. When selecting this option, the platform will help you to post the shift back online again to look for a substitute.

Payments

When do I get paid?

This depends on the way that you would like to get paid: Direct pay: 2.9% of your total earned amount will be deducted and you will get paid instantly when the company has approved your registered hours. Regular way: You will get paid within 30 business days when the company has approved your registered hours.

Will I receive an invoice or payslip?

As a freelancer, you generate invoices through Finqle, our financial partner. These invoices will be visible on your profile at “Financial Overview”.

Do I have to arrange my own taxes?

Yes, freelancers are fully responsible for reporting and paying their own taxes.

What happens if I don’t show up or arrive late?
